Barry Goldberg - Two Jews Blues (1969 - Buddah BDS 5029)
"This is one of those late-'60s collaborations where I expected the world to explode when I put it on, and felt disappointed when it didn't. However, when you get past looking at players in the band, and listen to the music, there are a number of wonderful cuts. Enough of them for me to replace the vinyl with the CD. "Blues for Barry And..." is Bloomfield at his best with a solid band behind him cranking out this slow blues you wish wouldn't end.
Barry Goldberg has always played a solid organ, whether with Harvey Mandel, Charlie Musselwhite, or out on his own. This is his chance to be the leader of an all-star lineup. My regrets are that it is only 35 minutes."

You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah!
"Earlier this month, my pseudonym, Fiona Rosenbloom, came out with her first young-adult novel. (Mazel Tov, Fiona!) The novel centers on Jewish themes and is called You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah!
Here's how that happened: A month before the release of my own decidedly R-rated first novel, I was approached by a book packager who pitched me the bat mitzvah project. To be honest, I wasn't interested in young-adult fiction, but to be fair, I needed a job. I had questions: Could I manage to work on my second novel while writing Fiona's first?
Was it wise to make this departure when I hadn't yet established myself as a literary novelist? Did these packager people know what a bad seed I was? An advance was offered, and I accepted in greedy haste, signing on under one condition: that I be fitted with the Jewish pseudonym of my choice." / FIONA ROSENBLOOM

Bar Mitzvah Disco / Camp Camp
I guess most of you have heard of the book "Bar Mitzvah Disco" (and movie), now here comes the "Camp Camp" book!
"Roger Bennett and Jules Shell are the authors of a book called BAR MITZVAH DISCO (Crown, 2005) a collection that used thousands of bar and bat mitzvah photographs from across the nation to tell the generational story of those of us who came of age in the seventies and eighties.
They are now embroiled in building a collection that can continue telling the story of our generation… THE CAMP CAMP BOOK PROJECT is a national photographic exhibit and accompanying book which will consist of camp photographs from the seventies and eighties pieced together to create an American year book that tells the story of who we are and how we got to be this way."

Skateboard on Shabbat?
Question: Dear Rabbi, Is one permitted to skateboard on Shabbat? Please explain and provide sources.
Answer: The reasons for prohibiting travel on Shabbat do not apply to a skateboard, as long as it is used within an eiruv [ a fence, which can also be a wire or string that surrounds an area, usually a community. The eiruv is a legal device that converts a public domain into a private domain, thus permitting carrying within its boundaries, which would otherwise be forbidden on Shabbat] but not beyond the Shabbat tehum (2000 cubits beyond the last building, the furthest point one can go to on Shabbat). Jewtopia - The Play and The Book
Before creating Jewtopia in 2003, Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson were unemployed actors and writers, working odd jobs and just trying to catch a break. Finally wanting to take matters into their own hands, they wrote Jewtopia, racked their credit cards with debt, and mounted the production themselves. Jewtopia went on to become the longest running original theatrical comedy in Los Angeles history.

Born to Kvetch
This is a funny book, and it has a good homepage too!
"Throughout history, Jews around the world have had plenty of reasons to lament. And for a thousand years, they've had the perfect language for it. Rich in color, expressiveness, and complexity, Yiddish has proven incredibly useful and durable. Its wonderful phrases and idioms impeccably reflect the mind-set that has enabled the Jews of Europe to survive a millennium of unrelenting persecution . . . and enables them to kvetch about it!"
